WiFi Issues : Foghorn Won't Connect to Wi-Fi
Your Foghorn needs Wi-Fi to follow live scores. When it can't connect — or was working and went quiet — it's almost always one of the causes below, in this order.
First, the 30-second fixes
- Power-cycle the Foghorn. Unplug it, count to ten, plug it back in. It reconnects on its own — give it a minute.
- Reboot your router. The other half of every Wi-Fi problem. Seriously, this fixes more than anyone likes to admit.
Still not connecting? Work down the list.
The 2.4GHz rule
The Foghorn connects to 2.4GHz Wi-Fi only. Most routers broadcast both 2.4GHz and 5GHz:
- If your router shows two network names (like
MyWiFiandMyWiFi-5G), make sure the Foghorn is set to the one without the 5G — that's usually the 2.4GHz one. - If your router shows one name for both bands, it sorts devices automatically and the Foghorn will land on 2.4GHz by itself — no action needed.
Did anything change?
The Foghorn remembers one network and its password. Any of these means it's trying to join a network that no longer exists:
- New router or mesh system (even "same name, new box" sometimes changes things)
- Changed Wi-Fi password
- New internet provider
- Foghorn moved to a different home, office, or bar
The fix is the same for all of them — give the Foghorn the new details:
- Open the Puckhead app, connect to your Foghorn over Bluetooth.
- Go to the Wi-Fi settings.
- Scan for networks, pick yours (2.4GHz!), enter the password, and save.
- The Foghorn reconnects — the app shows the connection status.
Passwords are case-sensitive, and the most common typo is a space snuck on the end.
Signal and distance
The Foghorn's antenna is small — it's a horn, not a laptop. If it sits far from the router, behind a TV, or inside a metal cabinet, it may connect weakly or drop off and on. Try it closer to the router for a game; if the problems vanish, it's a signal issue. Moving it a few feet or getting it out from behind metal objects is often enough.
Router settings that trip it up
If nothing above works and you're comfortable in your router's settings, check for these:
- 2.4GHz band disabled — some newer routers ship with it off. Turn it on.
- "New device approval" / access control — the router may be waiting for you to allow the Foghorn.
- Guest networks with device isolation — the Foghorn can join these fine, since it only needs internet access, but some guest modes block new devices entirely.
Connected, but still no scores?
If the app shows Wi-Fi connected and there's still nothing on game day, that's a different problem — usually there's just no game today, or your Foghorn needs a firmware update (it checks automatically every day it's plugged in, so leave it powered and it sorts itself out).
Still stuck? Open a support ticket and tell us your router brand and what the app shows for Wi-Fi status — with those two facts we can usually spot it immediately.
