The Light Works but There's No Sound (SD Card Reset)
Your Foghorn lights up on a goal — or when you press the brag button — but doesn't make a sound. The volume is up, Sound is on in the app, and it was working fine before. This almost always happens right after a firmware update, and the fix takes about two minutes.
Why it happens
The Foghorn's sounds live on its SD card. Occasionally, after the horn restarts to finish an update, the card and the audio chip don't come back up in step with each other. The horn can still see the card, so it doesn't report a problem, but nothing plays. A full power cycle with the card out resets both; putting the card back then starts them cleanly together.
The reset
Take your time with this. The reset only works if the horn gets to fully boot and fully power down at each step. Rushing it — pulling the plug the moment the screen lights up, or plugging back in right away — is the number one reason it "didn't work". Each step has a wait; give it the full time.
- Unplug the Foghorn from power. Wait a full 10 seconds — the screen should be completely dark before you move on.
- Take the SD card out. It's spring-loaded: press it in gently and it pops out.
- Plug the Foghorn in with no card. Let it boot all the way: the screen will say the SD card isn't detected, and that's exactly what you want to see. Leave it running for 30 seconds after that message appears.
- Unplug it again and wait another full 10 seconds with the screen dark.
- Put the SD card back in (label facing up, push until it clicks).
- Plug it in and let it finish booting — wait for it to connect to Wi‑Fi and show your team or the scoreboard, not just the Puckhead logo. That usually takes 30–60 seconds.
- Only then, test it: press the brag button on the horn, or Play on "Your team scores" in the app. You should hear the horn.
If it's still silent
- Check the basics once more: Volume above zero and "Sound enabled" on in the app's Settings › Sound. Both can be changed from any phone connected to the horn, so it's worth a look.
- Check the card is seated. Take it out and reinsert it until it clicks. A card that's half-in reads as "detected" but can't play.
- Try the reset once more, slower. If any step was cut short, the reset doesn't take. Count the waits out this time; it occasionally needs two full passes even when done right.
- If the screen says the card isn't detected with the card in, the card itself may have failed. Open a support ticket and tell us; we'll sort out a replacement.
Still stuck? Open a support ticket and mention that you've done the SD card reset — that tells us where to start.
